- It is required that employees record leave usage on the university’s web-based Leave System. In some departments, authorized leave representatives enter leave records for employees in their departments. Leave reports must be entered by the 16th, printed and signed by the employee and the supervisor, and retained in the department for audit purposes. University policy defines the criteria for employees to earn holiday pay and/or compensatory leave as a result of working on a holiday. Holidays occurring on a Saturday will be observed on the preceding Friday; holidays falling on a Sunday will be observed on the following Monday.
- University policy requires operation in accordance with its approved university calendar and to maintain full operations unless specifically closed by the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in consultation with the University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. All authorized closings resulting from inclement weather, natural disasters, or emergency conditions will be announced through the Communication Plan.
- The University will make every reasonable effort to return to the workplace employees who have sustained job-related injuries or illnesses, and as a result are prevented from returning to their full former employment. Employees will be returned to work on a transitional or full time basis as soon as it is determined to be medically feasible to do so.
- Virginia Tech will make every reasonable effort to place returning employees in existing positions that are the same as or equivalent to those held prior to the illness or injury. The university will also make every reasonable effort to investigate the cause of the work-related injury or illness to determine what actions can be taken to prevent a reoccurrence of the injury or illness.
- Salaried full- and part-time classified employees and regular 12-month faculty are eligible to donate annual leave hours to the Leave Sharing Program. Faculty members in restricted appointments are not eligible.
